Literature Briscoe, John: "The Grandson of Hortensius", in ZPE, Bd. 95, 1993, pp.249-250
Corbier, Mireille: "La descendance d'Hortensius et de Marcia", in Mélanges de l'Ecole française de Rome. Antiquité T. 103, 1991. pp.655-701.
argues that M.(Hortensius) Hortalus of 16 AD is a Marcius Hortalus and the same man as the pr pereg of 25 and the procos of Cyprus.
He could be the son of an unknown son of the orator and his second wife Marcia or/and could be adopted by L.Marcius Philippus cos 38 BC.
Eck, Werner: "Marcius Hortalus, nobilis iuvenis, und seine Söhne", in ZPE, Bd. 95, 1993, pp.251-260 argues that M.Hortalus, already senator in 16 AD
cannot be the praetor of 25 AD, the interval is too long. He should more likely be on of the 4 sons. Also the procos of Cyprus is likely a Marcius
Hortensinus and thus not the same man as the pr of 25. Both could be sons of the senator of 16 AD.
Geiger, Joseph: "M. Hortensius M. f. Q. n. Hortalus", in The Classical Review, New Series, Vol. 20, 1970, pp.132-134
argues that H210 should be the son of a Marcus, second son of the orator by his 2nd wife Marcia, since
Tacitus calls H210 a nobilis iuvenis with 4 young children, which does not fit a man at least aged 60 (if born 45 BC).
Settipani:Gentilice p.200-201 supports Corbier's interpretation that all three (sen 16, pr 25, procos9, are the same man, a Marcius Q.f Hortalus Hortensinus.
He proposes as the adoptive father of the father of 16 AD, Q.Marcius (cos suff 36 BC), the possible brother of L.Marcius Phillippus cos suff 38 BC.
